El-Rufai’s doctor confesses to authoring controversial medical report
Doctor Confirms Authorship of Controversial Medical Report in El-Rufai Bail Case
Bello Abubakar, the medical doctor involved in the controversy surrounding a report submitted to support former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s bail application, has acknowledged that he authored the document.
In a statement provided to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Abubakar maintained that he did not participate in any efforts to forge or falsify records. He stated that while he prepared the medical report, he rejected claims of conspiring with others to produce false information for judicial purposes.
Abubakar also distanced himself from Mohammed Bala Aliyu, the individual alleged to have used the report to file an affidavit supporting El-Rufai’s bail request. “I cannot recall anyone by the name Mohammed Bala Aliyu, and I have never authorized him to depose an affidavit,” he stated.
The ICPC previously accused Abubakar of knowingly issuing a false medical report intended to influence legal proceedings related to El-Rufai’s case in the Kaduna State High Court. Central to the dispute is a document dated June 10, 2026, titled “Medical Report and Expert Opinion for Urgent Medical Intervention.” The commission claims this report contained misleading information and was submitted for official use despite doubts about its authenticity and adherence to standard medical procedures.
Abubakar defended his actions, asserting he operated within his professional capacity and did not engage in any deceptive practices. He further elaborated on his long-standing relationship with El-Rufai, noting their acquaintance began several years ago through the former governor’s wife, for whom he delivered her first child. He indicated that he had treated El-Rufai multiple times, with the former governor being registered at the National Hospital in Abuja around 2005.
