EPL: Sturridge warns Alonso after Chelsea’s defeat to Arsenal

Sturridge Urges Alonso to Build Cohesion After Chelsea’s Defeat to Arsenal

Former Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge has offered advice to manager Xabi Alonso following the team’s 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

In the match at Emirates Stadium, Chelsea initially took the lead in the second minute with a goal from Morgan Rogers. However, Arsenal responded with goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Ødegaard, ultimately securing the victory.

Sturridge noted that Chelsea’s current reliance on their attacking trio could be detrimental to the team’s development. In an appearance on Sky Sports, he remarked on the performance of the front three, stating, “They posed a threat to Arsenal at various points, but I believe they are currently very much dependent on the front three.”

He emphasized the need for Alonso to foster a more cohesive team dynamic. “The chemistry among the front three is evident,” he continued, “but beyond that, it is clear that there is still work to be done. What Xabi needs to focus on, and what he will need to address, is how to implement the style of play he envisions for the team.”

Sturridge highlighted areas for improvement, including communication, positional understanding, and role comprehension among players. He cautioned that the team’s apparent confusion is concerning, stating, “Moving forward, they are relying on the front three to secure victories, depending on their individual talents. This approach is not sustainable throughout the entire season.”

Chelsea’s defeat marked their first in four competitive matches this season, having won their prior three. In contrast, Arsenal has maintained a perfect record, winning all three of their matches to date.
