Ex-guber candidate, Ubandoma dumps ADC for APC

Sokoto Politician Saidu Umar Ubandoma Defects to APC Ahead of 2027 Elections

Mallam Saidu Umar Ubandoma, the 2023 governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Ubandoma’s defection was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bashar Abubakar, Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who welcomed Ubandoma into the APC at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.

In explaining his decision to leave the PDP, Ubandoma cited his admiration for the leadership of Senator Wamakko and the achievements of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, stating, “I was inspired by the quality of leadership and political maturity demonstrated by Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, as well as the remarkable performance of Governor Ahmed Aliyu in delivering people-oriented projects across Sokoto State.”

Ubandoma emphasized that the current government’s accomplishments had reinforced his belief in the APC’s commitment to the state’s growth and development.

Senator Wamakko hailed Ubandoma’s defection as a significant gain for the APC, noting that it reflects increasing confidence among political leaders in the party’s leadership and development objectives. He assured Ubandoma and his supporters of equal treatment and respect within the APC.

“The APC remains open to all well-meaning citizens who are committed to promoting unity, peace, and sustainable development in Sokoto State,” Wamakko added.

Ubandoma’s political career includes service as Commissioner for Finance and later as Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under the Tambuwal administration. Notably, he had previously defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in March before rejoining the APC.
