Enugu—Uche Nnaji, a former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, has been named the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Nnaji secured 7,424 votes in the PDP primary election, surpassing his opponent, Samson Nnamani, who garnered 600 votes. The primary was conducted by Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, the chairman of the state gubernatorial committee, in Enugu.

In his acceptance speech, Nnaji expressed gratitude to party members for their support and emphasized his commitment to improving the lives of residents. He pledged to alleviate the financial burden on citizens caused by high taxes, stating that his administration would focus on creating a sense of belonging among the people.

“I dedicate this victory to the glory of God and to the people of Enugu, who have endured oppression and excessive taxation in recent years,” Nnaji said. He highlighted the struggles of various groups, including landlords and commercial motorcyclists, calling for greater financial support from the government for these citizens.

Nnaji outlined his vision for Enugu State, stating a goal of rebuilding and industrializing the area to address youth restiveness and create job opportunities. He referenced past governance, noting the contributions of former Governor Jim Nwobodo in industrial development, and asserted that the current administration’s appropriation of these industries is unacceptable.

Furthermore, Nnaji reassured the public of his dedication to enhancing living conditions in Enugu over a four-year term if elected. He also declared his intention to serve only one term in office.

Hon. Austin Nwachukwu, chairman of the electoral committee, praised party members for their orderly conduct during the primary. He asserted that the results demonstrate the PDP’s strength and readiness to contest the 2027 governorship election in Enugu State.
