Federal Government Assures Nigerians of No Ebola Virus Cases

The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed that there are currently no reported cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) within the country. Officials emphasize that all precautionary measures are in place to enhance national preparedness and response systems.

This announcement comes in response to recent Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, emphasized that the Federal Ministry of Health is actively monitoring the situation. This includes collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the World Health Organization (WHO), and regional health authorities.

“Nigeria remains vigilant and has put enhanced preparedness measures in place to protect public health and improve the nation’s capacity for early detection and rapid response,” Prof. Pate stated.

The minister outlined several ongoing response and preparedness measures, including:

  • Enhanced surveillance and monitoring throughout the country.
  • Strengthened health screening and declaration protocols at points of entry.
  • Increased coordination with state ministries and relevant stakeholders.
  • Improved laboratory preparedness and diagnostic capabilities.
  • Reinforcement of infection prevention and control measures in health facilities.
  • Heightened public awareness and community engagement activities.

Prof. Pate urged Nigerians to remain calm and to avoid spreading misinformation. He advised the public to follow preventative measures, such as practicing regular hand hygiene and minimizing contact with bodily fluids of individuals exhibiting illness symptoms.

Residents are encouraged to report any unusual health concerns to local health facilities promptly. Additionally, healthcare workers are advised to maintain a high level of vigilance, adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols, isolate suspected cases, and report findings through established public health channels.

The Federal Government remains committed to safeguarding public health and ensuring national health security through effective preparedness and rapid response efforts. The Ministry of Health will continue to provide information updates as necessary.
