Panic Erupts on Abdul Street in Lagos Following Fire Outbreak

LAGOS—A fire broke out on Abdul Street along University Road in the Abule-Oja area Wednesday, causing alarm among local residents and passers-by.

Footage shared on social media captured a thick plume of smoke emanating from what appeared to be two buildings, prompting urgent calls for emergency services to intervene and contain the blaze.

Witnesses reported seeing a crowd attempting to extinguish the flames with water as panic spread through the area. As of Wednesday evening, it remained unclear whether the Lagos State Fire Service had been able to bring the fire under control or the extent of the damage incurred.

The cause of the fire is also still undetermined at this time.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a significant fire that recently engulfed the headquarters of the Federal Mortgage Bank in Abuja, resulting in losses estimated at 500 million Naira.
