Inter Milan Secures 21st Serie A Title With Victory Over Parma
Milan, Italy — Inter Milan clinched their 21st Serie A title on Sunday, edging out Napoli with a 2-0 win against Parma at San Siro, leaving three matches remaining in the season. The victory sparked celebrations across Milan, where thousands of supporters took to the streets.
The festivities began in the Piazza del Duomo shortly after the match concluded, with fans adorning the iconic square in Inter’s blue and black colors. Flares and fireworks illuminated the night sky as supporters celebrated the club’s return to the top of Italian football.
Marcus Thuram scored the opening goal in first-half stoppage time, converting a through ball from Piotr Zielinski. Henrikh Mkhitaryan solidified the win with a goal in the 80th minute, tapping in a low cross from Lautaro Martinez. With this victory, Inter now sits at 82 points, achieving an unassailable 12-point lead after Napoli drew 0-0 against Como the previous day.
Though clear chances were limited, Inter maintained control for most of the match. A near-miss occurred in the 25th minute when Nicolo Barella struck the underside of the crossbar, and Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki quickly reacted to avert any danger from the rebound.
The second half saw Inter continuing to dominate. In the closing stages, Federico Dimarco provided a promising cross, but Denzel Dumfries misfired, sending the ball over the bar. Mkhitaryan ultimately secured the points, capping off a strong team performance.
This triumph offers a sense of redemption for Inter after last season’s disappointment, when they lost the Serie A title on the final day and fell to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
“It was not easy to start again after a season where we lost all the competitions we were in right at the end,” Martinez said following the match. “We worked hard on and off the field.”
The atmosphere in Milan contrasted sharply with last season’s heartbreak, prompting emotional reactions from many fans. “It was more than deserved. It was a difficult league season,” said Inter supporter Federico.
Celebrations are expected to continue as Inter prepares for the Coppa Italia final against Lazio on May 13, where they will seek to complete a domestic double.
