Five kidnapped polytechnic students rescued in Ogun
Students Rescued After Abduction at Ogun Polytechnic
Operatives from the Ogun State Police Command successfully rescued five students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Sapade, who had been abducted by suspected armed bandits from an off-campus hostel.
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution reported the abduction in a statement released on July 29, 2026, noting that the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the students were rescued.
In a joint statement on Thursday, the Ogun State Joint Campus Council of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Ogun State Students expressed relief over the rescue, stating, “We are delighted that the students have been rescued alive and unharmed, bringing an end to the anxiety experienced by their families, colleagues, and the entire Nigerian student community.”
The organizations extended their gratitude to the police, the State Security Service, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, local vigilantes, and all other entities involved in the rescue operation. They urged students to remain vigilant and support measures to ensure campus and community safety.
The rescue occurred just one day after NANS issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the state government and security agencies to secure the release of the abducted students, warning of potential peaceful protests if their demands were not met.
