Fleeing suspect fished out of Ondo river after Lagos-Abuja car theft

Police Arrest Two Suspects in Car Theft Investigation in Ondo State

Operatives from the Nigeria Police Force’s Ondo State Command have arrested two suspects linked to interstate car thefts. The suspects, identified as 25-year-old ThankGod Unchenna and 53-year-old Adewole Muyedeen, were intercepted in Ondo while transporting a stolen vehicle from Lagos to Abuja.

According to Abayomi Jimoh, the Police Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made possible through a combination of intelligence gathering and advanced technology.

Unchenna attempted to evade capture by jumping into the Ogbese River during the police pursuit but was apprehended by officers who followed him into the water. Jimoh stated that police had received information on April 30 about a silver Hyundai vehicle reported stolen in Lagos, which was believed to be heading towards Abuja.

In response to this information, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit was deployed, leading to the suspects’ apprehension in the Ogbese area of Akure North Local Government.

Jimoh noted that preliminary investigations suggest the possibility of connections to a larger criminal network, and the police are continuing their inquiries to identify all individuals involved. The suspects are expected to face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
