Friendly: Portugal star, Trincão compares Nigeria to Congo, reveals strategy to beat Super Eagles

Portugal’s Trincão Prepares for Tough Friendly Against Nigeria

Portugal forward Francisco Trincão has labeled Nigeria a formidable opponent ahead of the two nations’ international friendly match scheduled for Wednesday. Trincão expects a challenging contest as both teams look to strengthen their positions.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are entering the match with solid momentum, having secured victories against Zimbabwe and Jamaica, along with a draw against Poland in their last three friendly outings.

Despite Nigeria’s recent successes, Trincão emphasized that Portugal’s primary focus remains on executing their strategy and building momentum ahead of the FIFA World Cup.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Trincão noted the physical prowess of both African teams, drawing a comparison between the Super Eagles and the Republic of Congo, who are set to face Portugal in the upcoming World Cup.

“We need to take full advantage of this game. These teams are similar in terms of their physical attributes. It’s crucial for us to concentrate on our practice, evaluate our options, and learn from them,” Trincão said, according to Record.

Regarding Portugal’s game plan, the former Barcelona player stated that the team will prioritize their performance over specifically adapting to Nigeria’s style.

“Our goal is to perform at our best. They play similarly to Congo, and we will rely on our training. We will focus on ourselves rather than on Nigeria. It’s going to be a tough match, but we aim to deliver a strong performance and enter the World Cup with confidence,” he added.

As Portugal fine-tunes its preparations for the World Cup, Nigeria looks to secure a favorable result that would bolster its rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
