FRSC begins special intervention to reduce fatalities on Abia roads, targets offenders
Federal Road Safety Corps Launches “Operation KWUSI IHE MBEREDE OKPOROUZO” in Abia State
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Abia State Sector Command has initiated a special intervention patrol, codenamed “Operation KWUSI IHE MBEREDE OKPOROUZO,” following directives from its zonal Command Headquarters in Enugu.
This operation is part of the FRSC’s strategic plan to meet its goal of reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries by at least 10 percent by the year 2026. Key components of the initiative include intensified enforcement, public education, and collaboration with stakeholders.
Sector Commander CC Ngozi I. Ezeoma emphasized that the operation aims to promote safer road usage, decrease preventable accidents, and ensure compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
In support of the operation, the command has mobilized Regular and Special Marshals, equipped with patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and other necessary logistics.
The three-day operation will occur monthly, operating from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will focus on enforcing critical traffic regulations, specifically targeting offenses related to vehicle overloading, mixed loading, and the absence of valid driver’s licenses. Other areas of enforcement will include non-compliance with speed limit device regulations and the use of mobile phones while driving.
Ezeoma clarified that the initiative is not designed to penalize motorists but to promote safety on the roads. “This operation is not intended to punish motorists but to save lives by discouraging risky driving behaviors that contribute to the majority of road traffic crashes,” she stated.
