Gov Mohammed suspends issuance of business ID cards in Bauchi

Bauchi Governor Suspends Unified Business Identification Card Program
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has suspended the production and issuance of Unified Business Identification Cards throughout the state, effective immediately.
The decision was conveyed in a statement from Babayo Liman, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internal Security, on Friday in Bauchi.
The suspension follows reports of alleged production of counterfeit identification cards being used to extort money from traders and business owners.
According to Liman, the Unified Business Identification Card was initially implemented to enhance internal security and facilitate the identification of business operators in Bauchi State. However, investigations uncovered that individuals were charging approximately N3,000 from traders while falsely claiming to represent the state government and the Department of Internal Security.
In light of these findings, the governor has directed that the issuance of the ID cards be halted pending a comprehensive review and investigation. The process will now be overseen by the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs to ensure better monitoring and accountability.
Liman urged the public to report any instances of extortion, stating that individuals found guilty of such actions would face arrest and prosecution.
