Gridlock hits Ibadan as protesters demand release of abducted Oyo pupils

Protesters Block Major Routes in Oyo, Demanding Release of Kidnapped Victims
Ibadan, Oyo — Motorists and commuters faced significant delays on major routes in Oyo City as protesters barricaded the Iwo Road area on Wednesday morning. The demonstration was organized by the Take It Back Movement, which began gathering around 10 a.m. to call for enhanced security measures and the immediate release of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in the Orire Local Government Area.
Juwon Sanyaolu, the National Coordinator of the movement, stated that the protest aims to secure the freedom of all individuals held by kidnappers. “We will continue to protest until all abducted victims are released,” he said. “Government officials remain comfortable in their offices while innocent students and teachers are languishing in captivity.”
Sanyaolu criticized political leaders for prioritizing the 2027 elections, even as insecurity rises across the nation. “The state and federal governments must act, or they will continue to witness mass action. We are demanding freedom for all captives across Nigeria,” he added.
As demonstrators displayed banners calling for an end to kidnapping and insecurity, traffic disruption was significant along the major route, affecting movement throughout the area.
