Goods worth millions of naira destroyed in railway complex fire incident in Ibadan

A fire broke out early Saturday morning at the Nigerian Railway shopping complex in Ibadan, Oyo State, destroying goods and properties valued at millions of naira. The blaze affected three shops along Aleshinloye Market Road.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident around 6 a.m., approximately an hour after the fire ignited, according to witnesses. Busari Olayemi, a trader whose interior decoration business was significantly impacted, reported losses nearing N21 million. Among the destroyed items were window blinds, curtain fabrics, and industrial sewing machines.

“What happened here destroyed a lot of things,” Olayemi stated. “Our customers’ fabrics were burnt. Our industrial sewing machines and tools were also lost in the fire.”

Maroof Akinwande, chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed that the fire was successfully extinguished. He clarified that the incident took place within the Nigerian Railway complex, contrary to earlier reports linking it to Aleshinloye.

The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
