Gunmen Attack Mining Site in Plateau State, Killing Three
JOS, Plateau State — Unidentified assailants launched an attack on a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of three individuals and injuries to two others.
The attack occurred shortly before noon, around 11:50 a.m., when the gunmen invaded the site and opened fire on the workers present.
In response, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) released a statement expressing deep concern regarding the ongoing insecurity in Gyel and its neighboring areas. Rwang Tengwong, the association’s National Publicity Secretary, noted that this incident is part of a troubling pattern of violence in the region.
Residents of Gyel and the adjacent Bassa Local Government Area have repeatedly voiced their fears about attacks carried out by armed groups operating around the Gyero and Rafin Buna axis, according to BYM. The organization highlighted that these recurring assaults have led to loss of life, forced displacement, and significant disruptions to local economic activities.
BYM urged security agencies and government officials to take immediate action to dismantle criminal hideouts and effectively address the cycle of violence to restore peace and security for the affected communities.
