Kebbi Hisbah Board Releases Women After Counseling on Modesty

BIRNIN KEBBI, Kebbi State — The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has released two women who were detained for alleged indecent dressing in the Badariya area following a counseling session on community standards and modesty.

Surajo Usman, the Director of the Board, confirmed the release in a statement issued Sunday. He explained that the board received complaints on May 8 from residents regarding women reportedly dressing inappropriately while staying in a local residence.

Residents expressed concerns that the women occasionally appeared outside the house in outfits that they deemed inappropriate. In response, Hisbah officers were dispatched to investigate the claims, resulting in the arrest of the two women.

During questioning, the women acknowledged the incident but stated that they did not have any malicious intent. They explained that the extreme heat had influenced their choice of clothing for comfort and ventilation.

Usman stated that the women expressed remorse for their actions and committed to not repeating the behavior. They received guidance on the significance of modesty, morality, and adherence to religious and community values regarding dressing standards.

After the counseling, the women were released with a recommendation to adhere to acceptable conduct in the future. Usman also urged community members to promote good moral behavior and collaborate with authorities to maintain peace and discipline.
