I will abolish JAMB, scrap NYSC as Nigerian president – Sowore

Sowore Promises to Abolish JAMB and NYSC if Elected President

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has announced plans to discontinue the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) if he wins the election. Sowore advocates for a merit-based admissions process managed directly by institutions of higher learning.

In a post on social media platform X, Sowore also expressed his intention to eliminate the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). He proposed a two-year, voluntary National Job Corps as a replacement, aimed at providing participants with job opportunities, practical skills, and entrepreneurship support.

“When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, JAMB will be abolished,” Sowore stated. “Admission into tertiary institutions should be determined by the institutions themselves under a transparent, merit-based system, not by another layer of bureaucracy.”

He continued by emphasizing that the current format of the NYSC would be scrapped, asserting that young Nigerians require opportunities and the freedom to shape their futures rather than additional compulsory programs.

Sowore’s proposals are part of his broader vision for empowering Nigeria’s youth and addressing the needs of an evolving job market.
