I’m staying in ADC despite defections, Rhodes-Vivour declares

Former Labour Party Candidate Affirms Commitment to ADC
Lagos State — Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the former governorship candidate for the Labour Party in Lagos State, has publicly reaffirmed his membership with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Rhodes-Vivour addressed recent fluctuations within opposition politics, highlighting that some party members have opted to switch allegiances to other political groups.
“We are living through a defining moment,” he said. “Our politics is turbulent, the unity of the opposition is being tested, and for some, it has become necessary to forge different paths. To those who have made the difficult decision to move on to a new platform, I offer my genuine respect and best wishes.”
Despite the shifting landscape, Rhodes-Vivour emphasized his commitment to the ADC, characterizing it as a platform he has helped to build. “I want to make it clear that I am staying in the African Democratic Congress. It is the platform we have built, the ground we have fought on, and the vehicle that can take us to victory,” he stated.
Rhodes-Vivour explained that his political trajectory has always been shaped by conviction, tracing his past affiliations from KOWA to the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party. “Every step I have taken has been guided by one thing: conviction. And when those spaces could no longer serve the people honestly, I moved on out of principle,” he added.
He further asserted that he has never compromised with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, rejecting offers that he felt conflicted with his principles. “I have never compromised with the APC in Lagos. Not when it was convenient, not when agreements were presented, and not when financial incentives were offered. That is who I am,” he remarked.
Rhodes-Vivour also noted ongoing efforts to stabilize opposition frameworks in Lagos post-2023 elections, emphasizing ward-level mobilization and coordination across local government areas.
