Israeli Airstrike in Gaza City Kills Two Amid Ongoing Violence
Israeli airstrikes in Gaza continued over the weekend, despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States. On Sunday, an airstrike targeted a vehicle in the Tal al-Hawa neighborhood of Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals and injuries to 13 others, according to local health officials.
Medical personnel reported that the bodies of the deceased were dismembered, prompting a call for public assistance in identifying the victims. Footage from the scene, which was verified by Al Jazeera, depicted the vehicle severely damaged, with portions ripped away.
The Israeli military stated that the strike aimed at two Hamas militants. This incident marks the latest in a series of frequent Israeli assaults on Gaza, which have occurred since a ceasefire was established between Israel and Hamas in October 2023.
Since the start of the U.S.-brokered truce, more than 1,300 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Israeli strikes, according to health authorities in Gaza. Hamas has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire agreement, suggesting that such actions complicate U.S. efforts to address ongoing hostilities and facilitate a resolution, which includes a potential Israeli withdrawal and the disarmament of Hamas.
During a visit to Ireland on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump defended his administration’s approach to the situation in Gaza. He asserted, “We put out the fire, and we got all the hostages back. There’s very little happening right now in Gaza.” Trump characterized ongoing developments as positive, noting, “There’s a lot of good relationships taking place right now.”
Local authorities report that the ongoing conflict has claimed the lives of at least 73,669 people since October 2023, with a significant number of casualties being women and children.
