Kano State Police Commissioner Warns Criminals of Stiff Consequences

KANO, Nigeria — Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced on Sunday that Kano State will not tolerate criminal activities, asserting that it will not serve as a refuge for criminals and fraudsters.

The declaration follows a recent operation in which police recovered four stolen vehicles over a week’s span, as confirmed in a statement from Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa. The operations were conducted by the Special Intervention Squad and Badawa Division across Kano, Yobe, and Kaduna states.

One significant arrest was made in Damaturu, Yobe State, where Suleiman Umar was apprehended for allegedly using a fake bank alert to secure a red Kia Forte valued at N9.5 million from a dealer in Lagos. The suspect reportedly confessed to the crime, and the vehicle has been returned to its rightful owner.

In a separate operation, a red Daihatsu Sirion was recovered after being reported stolen from outside its owner’s residence in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano. The vehicle was found abandoned, and efforts to locate the suspects are ongoing.

Additionally, authorities recovered an ash-colored Hyundai Elantra that had been stolen from an event center in Kano. The vehicle was abandoned in Zaria, Kaduna State, during police operations, with suspects fleeing the scene.

A Toyota ambulance belonging to EHA Special Hospital was also recovered after it, along with solar batteries and other valuables, was stolen during an assault on security guards. The ambulance was found abandoned along Zaria Road and returned to the hospital.

Vehicle owners expressed their gratitude for the prompt recovery efforts and the professionalism of the Kano State Police Command during the handover of their vehicles.

Commissioner Bakori reiterated that individuals involved in vehicle theft and fraud will face serious repercussions in Kano State. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to support ongoing investigations and enhance community safety.
