Kano Sharia Court sentences woman to five months’ community service for assaulting neighbour

A Sharia Court in Kano has sentenced a woman to five months of community service following a conviction for trespassing and assault. The presiding judge, Shamsudden Ado Abdullahi, delivered the ruling after Hassana Abdul pleaded guilty to the charges.
The case stemmed from an incident in which Abdul allegedly entered another woman’s home without permission and assaulted her during a dispute involving the victim and Abdul’s friend. The victim reported the altercation to the police, which led to Abdul’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
In addition to the community service requirement, the court offered Abdul the alternative of paying a fine of 20,000 naira or facing a five-month prison sentence. The sentence mandates that she clean an Islamiyya school in her neighborhood for the duration of her community service.
