Kano Taskforce Rescinds Block Industry’s Operations Following Violations
KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Special Taskforce Committee on Illegal Structures has resealed a block industry along the Zaria Road flyover after the operators reportedly defied an earlier government order to cease all construction.
According to the committee, the owners continued work on the site, even constructing a large gate despite the suspension order.
Dr. Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, chairman of the committee and Director-General of the Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS), condemned the actions as a violation of legal regulations.
“It is unlawful for anyone to continue construction after a property has been sealed by the government. Such acts will not be tolerated,” Dr. Sani stated.
He emphasized that the committee aims to promote proper urban development, enhance security, and uphold a clean and safe environment across Kano State. “We are carrying out this assignment in the interest of Kano’s development. The committee will continue to operate day and night, including weekends, to ensure compliance with land administration laws,” he added.
Dr. Sani also noted that many residents have supported the committee by reporting illegal construction and adhering to government directives. He affirmed that the committee operates with professionalism and fairness, warning that violations of government regulations could result in legal action. Furthermore, he urged developers to secure the necessary approvals before commencing any construction.
He called on the public to report any illegal building activities to the authorities.
During the same operation, the committee sealed a construction site at Dangauro Market for being built on government land without the appropriate permits or documentation. The individual responsible for the project has been directed to report to KANGIS immediately, or face legal consequences.
