Court remands man over alleged threat to release Kano governor’s nude photos

Federal High Court Orders Remand of Suspect in Cybercrime Case Involving Kano State Governor
ABUJA — The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Sanusi Dankaka at Kuje Correctional Centre following allegations that he threatened to publish nude videos and photographs of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on social media.
Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the remand order on Monday after the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned Dankaka on two counts of cybercrime. Dankaka pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The DSS filed the case, identified as FHC/ABJ/CR/699/2026, on October 22, alleging that the offenses occurred in October 2026. According to the prosecution, Dankaka and accomplices, who are still at large, utilized his Facebook account, Sanusi Dankaka Yahaya, to threaten the release of purported nude media of the governor.
Prosecutors stated that the claims made by Dankaka were false, asserting that he intended to cause annoyance, inconvenience, and insult to Governor Yusuf. The charges against him are said to violate Section 27(1)(6) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended, which are punishable under Section 24(1) of the same law.
During the court proceedings, DSS counsel Yusuf Afegbua informed the judge that the case was ready for hearing. Dankaka’s attorney, Kauna Penzin, also expressed readiness for the proceedings. After the allegations were read, Dankaka reiterated his innocence.
Afegbua requested that the court schedule a trial date and sought an order for Dankaka’s remand at Kuje Correctional Centre, a request that the defense did not contest. Justice Ibrahim adjourned the case until December 7 for trial and ordered that Dankaka remain in custody.
