Katsina: Fresh attack rocks Musawa communities amid protest over insecurity

Renewed Violence Forces Evacuations in Katsina State

MUSAWA, Katsina State — Armed bandits attacked rural settlements on the western outskirts of Musawa town on Sunday, prompting widespread evacuations among residents and significant livestock thefts, contributing to a growing insecurity in the region.

The incident was confirmed by Bakatsine, a northern security analyst and crisis reporter, who monitors security developments across Nigeria’s Northwest. He reported multiple invasions of communities within the Musawa Local Government Area, where attackers fired gunshots, causing residents to flee in panic.

Many of the displaced individuals, including women and children, have sought refuge in Musawa town, facing dire conditions with inadequate shelter, food, and basic necessities amid ongoing rainfall.

Bakatsine characterized the situation as urgent, advocating for immediate humanitarian aid for the affected families and enhanced security measures to deter further assaults in the area. He noted that the attackers faced minimal resistance and managed to steal large quantities of cattle before retreating into nearby forested areas.

He urged security forces to intensify their operations across Musawa and neighboring communities, warning that ongoing attacks are exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in rural Katsina.

The latest violence follows protests earlier the same day along the Kano-Katsina corridor, where demonstrators blocked the highway in response to a rise in bandit-related violence. The protests disrupted traffic along the critical Dayi-Gwarzo route, with participants calling for urgent government action to address the escalating threats to their villages.

Community members expressed heightened anxiety, noting that the combination of protests and renewed attacks has intensified fears of further violence unless security measures are increased.

As of this report, local authorities in Katsina State had not yet released an official statement regarding the recent attack, while residents continue to await relief assistance and assess their losses.
