Kwara: Five suspects in custody as police crackdown on kidnappers

Kwara Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers in Coordinated Operation

Kwara State Police Command announced a significant development in its efforts against kidnapping following the arrest of five individuals suspected of abduction.

In a press release dated April 28, 2026, the police detailed that the arrests occurred during a coordinated operation on April 23 in the Oke-Iya community. This operation was executed by members of the Command’s anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with local vigilantes and forest guards, based on actionable intelligence.

The initial arrests involved three men: Idris Umar, Muhammed Usman, and Abdullahi Abubakar. They were apprehended in connection with a recent incident in the Idiya community, where five individuals were reportedly kidnapped. It was noted that two of the victims managed to escape from captivity prior to the arrests.

Subsequent investigations led to the capture of two additional suspects, Mohammad Awal and Sani Mallam Musa, who are believed to have ties to the same criminal activity.

Authorities recovered several items during the operation, including a locally made rifle adapted to fire AK-47 ammunition, along with eight rounds of live ammunition.

“The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing,” the statement from the police indicated. They also noted that the suspects would face charges in court once the investigation concludes.
