Kwara: NSCDC arrests fake soldier for alleged impersonation, fraud

FAKE SOLDIER ARRESTED IN KWARA FOR FRAUDULENT ACTIVITIES

Ilorin, Nigeria — The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kwara State Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Akinola Tosin, for allegedly posing as a soldier and engaging in fraudulent activities.

The arrest followed a complaint from a Point-of-Sale (POS) operator who reported that Tosin had used a counterfeit bank transfer alert to defraud him, according to a statement from NSCDC spokesman Ayoola Michael Shola.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Tosin received 40,600 naira by presenting a bogus debit alert that misled the POS operator into believing a legitimate transaction had occurred. Authorities also discovered that Tosin was impersonating a member of the Nigerian Army, complete with a fake military identity card and related paraphernalia, which he allegedly utilized to gain public trust.

During the investigation, Tosin reportedly confessed to various other fraudulent schemes involving multiple victims. Law enforcement officials identified a suspected accomplice, Feranmi Idoko Godwin, who remains at large. Efforts are underway to apprehend Godwin and continue the investigation.

Items seized from Tosin include several ATM cards from various banks and a National Identity Card. Once the investigation concludes, the suspect will face prosecution as permitted by law.

NSCDC Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed reiterated the agency’s commitment to combating crime and urged the public to exercise caution and verify electronic transactions prior to completing any exchanges involving cash or valuables.
