Lagos govt seals 12 establishments over noise pollution, environmental violations

Lagos State Government Closes 12 Businesses for Environmental Violations
LAGOS—The Lagos State Government has shut down 12 businesses in various locations across the state due to multiple environmental offenses, including noise and air pollution, obstruction of official duties, and repeated non-compliance with environmental regulations.
The enforcement operation took place on June 15, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts led by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in collaboration with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).
Among the establishments closed was Westgate Arena Club, situated on Apostolic Church Close in Olowora, which was penalized for ongoing noise pollution issues.
According to LASEPA, the closures were initiated under the directive of Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources. The agency noted that the affected businesses had received multiple warnings and abatement notices prior to their closure.
The enforcement effort targeted facilities that were found to be in violation of environmental standards, including excessive noise generation, air pollution, and obstruction of environmental officials. Notable closures also included Golden Click Hotel on Cados Road in Baruwa for non-compliance; 14:02 Lounge and Bar on Command Road for noise pollution; and the Cherubim and Seraphim Church on Olumuyiwa Jacobs Street in Aguda, Surulere, for the same reason.
Other establishments sealed during the operation included Kilo Hotel, Max Lounge, The Hotel Macs, Hotel Bel Am, and Fecomillion Hotel, each facing penalties for similar environmental violations.
The enforcement team closed down PetroSafe Gas Station on Ijesha Road for obstructing officials and not adhering to directives. Serena Hotel and Suites and CitiLounge were also shut down for non-compliance and noise pollution, respectively.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, General Manager of LASEPA, emphasized the agency’s commitment to safeguarding public health and maintaining a clean environment. “Environmental compliance is a collective responsibility,” he stated. “LASEPA will continue to strengthen enforcement actions against violators to mitigate environmental nuisances and protect residents.”
Ajayi encouraged residents and business owners to adopt environmentally friendly practices and collaborate with regulatory authorities to promote a cleaner Lagos. LASEPA reaffirmed its intent to employ all lawful measures required to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and foster a healthier, more sustainable environment for all residents.
