Leadership now belongs to young Abians not you – Gov Otti to political godfathers
Abia State Governor Alex Otti asserted that leadership in the state is shifting to younger citizens, distancing his administration from traditional political godfathers.
Otti made this statement Thursday at the Labour Party office in Umuahia, where he welcomed Ngozika Gladys Johnson Chukwunenye, the Social Democratic Party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, into the Labour Party.
The governor emphasized that his successor will emerge from a group of trained and capable young leaders rather than from political patronage or influence. “The person that will succeed me will be better than me,” he stated, expressing his commitment to supporting the next generation of leaders.
Otti addressed criticisms from opposition politicians, claiming their attacks stem from his refusal to entertain their proposals. He reiterated that his administration was elected by the people of Abia and would remain resolute in the face of opposition to their initiatives.
“I don’t want to be a godfather, and I don’t tolerate godfathers,” Otti said. He encouraged the youth, asserting, “There are better trained, smarter, and equipped children; we need to give them the opportunity.”
The governor urged Labour Party members to remain steadfast despite opposition rhetoric, highlighting his administration’s efforts to revitalize Aba and Umuahia and extend development efforts to rural areas.
