Five Suspects Arrested in Anambra State for Sexual and Child Abuse

AWKA, Anambra State — The Anambra State Police Command announced the arrest of five individuals in connection with various sexual and child abuse offenses.

Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the arrests in a statement, noting that the suspects are under investigation and will face charges in court.

Among those arrested is 46-year-old Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, who has been accused of incest involving a 20-year-old victim. According to reports, the case was referred from the Oko Police Station on April 23, 2026, after the victim tested HIV positive during a medical check-up. The police stated that Ezenandu allegedly engaged in sexual relations with the victim since she was 17 years old and has subsequently made a confessional statement.

Another suspect, Eucharia Ezenwanne, was detained for allegedly subjecting two children, ages 6 and 4, to severe physical abuse. Reports indicate that Ezenwanne used a wire to inflict injuries on the children, whom she claims to have adopted from a motherless babies’ home in Onitsha.

Additionally, the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) received a report on April 22, 2026, regarding the rape of a 16-year-old girl. The suspect, 26-year-old Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, reportedly attacked the victim while she was en route to visit a friend in an estate, dragging her into an unfinished building where the assault occurred. Chidiebere has also made a confession.

On April 23, 2026, investigators were alerted to the defilement of an 11-year-old girl, with 36-year-old Uchenna Muojama as the primary suspect. Police allege that Muojama lured the victim into his barbershop and sexually assaulted her. A medical report has been obtained in preparation for court proceedings.

In a separate case from April 21, 2025, 52-year-old Chukwudi Nwayata was accused of taking advantage of the mental state of an 11-year-old girl, luring her to his home for sexual exploitation.

Ikenga stated that operatives from the SCID investigated these cases. All five suspects are set to be arraigned today, May 6, 2026, before a Special Court in Awka.

Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu described the offenses as heinous and emphasized the commitment of the Anambra State Police to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly children, and to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
