Matawalle orders intensified military operations after Zamfara attacks
Minister of State for Defence Urges Intensified Counter-Terrorism Efforts
The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has directed the military to enhance counter-terrorism operations throughout the North-West region, in response to a recent surge of terrorist attacks in Zamfara State.
Matawalle issued this directive while visiting residents of Bungudu Local Government Area and other affected communities to express condolences for the attacks. His comments were included in a statement released on Sunday by his spokesperson, Ahmad Dan-Wudil.
In the statement, Matawalle reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace and enhancing security in the region despite the recent violence. He instructed the leadership of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to continue its offensive against terrorist groups in coordination with other security agencies operating in the affected areas.
The minister also called for an escalation of counter-terrorism operations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states, emphasizing the need for targeted military actions to eliminate terrorist activities. He urged the public, particularly traditional rulers and community leaders, to assist security forces by providing timely and accurate intelligence regarding individuals who are collaborating with terrorists or facilitating attacks.
In addition, Matawalle directed senior military commanders in volatile regions to enhance surveillance and increase patrols to identify and dismantle terrorist camps and hideouts before they can be used for further assaults.
He praised the Armed Forces and other security personnel for their professionalism and dedication, highlighting recent successful operations that neutralized several terrorists in various areas, including Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka, Tsafe, and Faskari. Matawalle encouraged troops to maintain their operational momentum and apply pressure on terrorist groups until peace and security are restored across the affected states.
