Operatives Rescue Mother and Infant from Canal in Lagos
LAGOS — Personnel from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, commonly referred to as Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), successfully rescued a mother and her five-month-old daughter from a canal in Abule-Ado, located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, on Wednesday.
During a routine clearance operation, KAI operatives noted the presence of the woman and child in the canal and quickly took action. The agency’s spokesperson, Lukman Ajayi, reported that the mother could not adequately explain their situation or how they ended up in the waterway. Observations indicated that the infant was in poor health at the time of rescue.
Ajayi stated, “The mother could not give a satisfactory answer as to why they were there, and she only said she was running from her husband, who lived in FESTAC.” Immediate medical assistance was sought, and both the mother and child were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and care.
“The child was not in a good state of health when they were rescued,” Ajayi added, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. The KAI operatives’ intervention highlights the critical role of timely response in emergencies within urban environments.
