My time with Brazil is over – Neymar confirms retirement

Brazil Forward Neymar Jr. Announces Retirement from International Football

Brazilian forward Neymar Jr. has announced his decision to retire from international football, concluding a 16-year career with the national team.

The 34-year-old made the announcement following a victory by Santos over Universidad Central, which ended with a 4-2 scoreline in the second leg of the Copa Sudamericana knockout round playoffs.

“My time with the national team is over,” Neymar stated during a post-match press conference. He reflected on his journey, saying, “I made history, I was very happy, I gave my blood, my life. I always fought for the yellow jersey, but now I don’t want to anymore.”

Neymar’s last appearance in a Brazil jersey occurred during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he played in a round of 16 match against Norway. He scored a penalty in stoppage time, although Brazil was ultimately eliminated from the tournament.

With this announcement, Neymar closes a significant chapter in his professional career with the Selecao.
