Nations League: Cole Palmer, Alexander-Arnold, Ngumoha, others return to England squad

Real Madrid full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold and Chelsea forward Cole Palmer have been recalled to the England squad for upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Spain, the Czech Republic, and Croatia, set to begin next week.

Alongside Alexander-Arnold and Palmer, several other players have returned to the squad. Liverpool striker Rio Ngumoha, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall, and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite have been named after missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, as reported by The Athletic.

This selection represents Alexander-Arnold’s first call-up to the England squad in 15 months. During this time, he has started twice in La Liga for Real Madrid under coach José Mourinho.

Ngumoha made his senior international debut in a friendly against New Zealand in June but was not included in the World Cup squad by coach Thomas Tuchel.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who participated during the March international break, was also left out of the World Cup roster. Meanwhile, Scott is expected to earn his first cap under Tuchel’s management during this campaign.

Palmer has solidified his position in the squad through strong performances in the ongoing 2026-27 season with Chelsea.

England’s Nations League campaign kicks off on September 26 with a home match against reigning European and world champions Spain. The team will then face the Czech Republic away three days later, before returning home to play Croatia on October 3, followed by a rematch against the Czech Republic on October 6.
