Nigerian govt renames Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway

The Nigerian government has officially renamed the 750-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal highway in honor of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a briefing on Thursday, Works Minister David Umahi announced the decision, stating that the vision for the highway originated with President Tinubu approximately 27 years ago.
“By the power conferred on me as the Honourable Minister of Works, and in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors, and the entire staff of the ministry, we have decided to name the entire Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Umahi said. “This is a dream that Mr. President had about 27 years ago.”
The project is projected to cost approximately 15 trillion naira upon completion. Currently, the highway is regarded as one of the key legacy initiatives of the Tinubu administration, with sections nearing completion. However, the project has faced controversies since its inception in March 2024.
