President Tinubu Promises Lower Transportation Costs by October 2026
President Bola Tinubu announced that Nigerians can expect a reduction in transportation costs starting October 2026.
This commitment was shared in a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Saturday. The announcement is part of an updated initiative concerning the National Affordable Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Transit Programme.
According to the statement, President Tinubu discussed this objective with governors from Nigeria’s 36 states during a meeting on August 27. He emphasized that measurable decreases in transportation expenses should begin to take effect by October 1.
To facilitate this initiative, an implementation committee has been established under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq serving as chair.
The statement highlighted the ongoing efforts by the committee, as well as the collaboration with PI-CNG & EV, state governments, and other key stakeholders. These efforts include identifying priority transport corridors and determining the necessary interventions to ensure the success of the initiative.
The urgency of this work has become more pronounced in light of the current global energy crisis, the official statement noted.
