NYSC investigates corps members’ complaint over hospital treatment in Osun

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Osun State has launched an investigation following a complaint from a corps member regarding a lack of medical attention at the General Hospital in Iwo.
The inquiry was prompted by a viral video shared on social media by Olaode Testimony and his colleague, Olusegun Victor, both serving in the Ayedire Local Government Area. In the video, the corps members claimed they were denied access to medical help after arriving at the hospital for what they believed was food poisoning.
Olaode stated that he and Victor sought treatment around 10:05 PM, as they were experiencing symptoms they associated with food poisoning. According to Olaode, their attempts to seek care were unsuccessful.
However, during the NYSC investigation, Olaode clarified the events that unfolded at the hospital. He stated the duo was not completely disregarded upon their arrival. “We were received by a security personnel who directed us to a nurse,” he explained, adding that the nurse was unable to assist them at that time.
Olaode also noted that Victor had received treatment at the same hospital earlier that day, but their attempt to obtain care later that night was unsuccessful. After leaving the General Hospital, they sought help at a pharmacy nearby, where they ultimately received medical attention.
The NYSC’s investigation revealed that the corps members did not utilize the established channels for reporting emergencies. They failed to contact their Local Government Inspector, Zonal Inspector, Corps Liaison Officer, or State Coordinator, despite having been provided with the officials’ contact information during their orientation.
Bolanle Abatan, the Local Government Inspector, commented that Olaode could have reached out to him for assistance. He indicated that had he known of their condition, he would have directed them to Bowen University Teaching Hospital in Iwo for further medical attention.
As a result of the findings, the Corps Inspection and Monitoring Branch has issued queries to the involved corps members. The matter has also been referred to the Corps Disciplinary Committee for further action.
