Ogidi’s body not missing, awaiting autopsy in mortuary – Police

Delta State Police Confirm Body of Alleged Victim Is in Mortuary
The Delta State Police Command has clarified that the body of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi, who was reportedly killed by police officers, is not missing. According to authorities, Ogidi’s remains are currently deposited in a local mortuary.
This statement came in response to social media reports claiming that the deceased’s family had been denied access to his body and that police could not account for it. SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, labeled these claims as false and misleading.
In a post on his official X account on Friday, Edafe confirmed, “His body is at the mortuary, and the family have been told that whenever they want to see it, they will be allowed to.” He noted that the case is being treated as a suspected murder, which necessitates further investigation. “An autopsy is compulsory, and the family also agreed to this,” he added.
Ogidi, a musician from the area, was allegedly shot in broad daylight in Effurun. The police have arrested ASP Nuhu Usman, the officer believed to be responsible, and he has been transferred to the Force Headquarters for further disciplinary action.
Additionally, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the immediate dismissal and prosecution of those involved in the incident.
