One Dead Following Wild Elephant Attack in Oyo State

Oke Ogun, Oyo State — A man was killed Thursday after sustaining injuries from an attack by a wild elephant in the Innayin community.

The victim has been identified as Ibrahim Tijani. Reports indicate that another individual, Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, was also attacked by the same elephant and is currently missing.

Authorities have confirmed that Tijani’s body has been taken to a nearby health facility for examination.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the incidents and stated that an investigation is underway. “Upon receiving a distress call, police operatives, along with local vigilantes and hunters, promptly responded to the scene,” Ayanlade said.

He added that Tijani’s body was found in a nearby bush, displaying injuries consistent with those of an animal attack. Efforts are ongoing to locate Bingin, who was reported missing following the encounter.

The police have assured residents of Innayin and surrounding areas that measures are being implemented to prevent further incidents. Community members are advised to stay away from the affected region and to report any sightings of the elephant to local authorities.
