One killed, six Injured as Buskuwa, Mabani communities clash in Bauchi
One person has died and six others were injured following a violent clash between youth from the Buskuwa and Mabani communities in the Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident occurred on Monday night after three youth from Mabani were allegedly attacked by individuals from Buskuwa. The three victims—Babangida Musa, 20, Usman Abdu, 20, and Ya’u Muhammad, 18—were reportedly assaulted with sticks around 8 p.m. as they made their way to Buskuwa.
According to a statement from the Bauchi Police Command, the initial attack incited a reprisal later that night. One individual, identified as Jumba Adamu, allegedly gathered youth from Mabani who subsequently retaliated in Buskuwa, resulting in further violence.
During this retaliation, a victim named Muhammadu Dare was killed, and six others sustained various injuries. Responding to the chaos, police personnel from the Gamawa Division, along with local hunters and vigilante groups, evacuated the injured and the deceased to General Hospital in Gamawa.
Three of the injured individuals were admitted for treatment, while the remaining three were treated and discharged.
Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib confirmed that one suspect has been arrested, and investigators are actively seeking additional suspects involved in the conflict. He indicated that a preliminary investigation is underway and that the case will be referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the violence and directed security forces in the area to bolster patrols and efforts aimed at conflict resolution. He urged residents and community leaders from both Buskuwa and Mabani to promote peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, cautioning that those responsible for the violence will be prosecuted.
