Otukpo killings: Idoma UK Community urges Benue Govt to hunt down perpetrators

Idoma Community in the UK Urges Action Following Fatal Attacks in Benue State

The Idoma Community United Kingdom (ICUK) is urging the Benue State Government to collaborate with security agencies to identify and prosecute individuals responsible for recent violent attacks in Otukpo and Ohimini local government areas. This call to action follows an emergency meeting held by the diaspora group on Sunday, prompted by the assaults that resulted in multiple fatalities and significant displacement among residents.

In a communiqué signed by ICUK President Chief Dr. Williams Obande, the community condemned what it termed the brutal killings of innocent Idoma individuals, highlighting the need for justice.

“We strongly condemn the brutal killings of innocent Idoma people and call on the Benue State Government to work closely with security agencies to identify, apprehend, and prosecute the perpetrators of these heinous crimes,” the statement read.

The group also requested that the state government enhance its security infrastructure to ensure the safety of lives and property, particularly in vulnerable Idoma communities.

The communiqué emphasizes the importance of providing urgent humanitarian assistance to those displaced by the attacks and implementing additional security measures to prevent further violence. “We call for immediate humanitarian assistance to be provided to those who have been displaced by these attacks, alongside strengthened security measures to safeguard them and prevent further loss of lives,” it stated.

ICUK expressed condolences to the families of victims and offered prayers for the recovery of the injured. The organization pledged to support the victims by contributing to medical expenses and assisting bereaved families with burial arrangements, based on available resources.

“As a community, we are committed to playing our part by providing support towards the medical treatment of the injured and assisting bereaved families with the burial of their loved ones, as our resources permit,” the communiqué added.

The group reaffirmed its solidarity with affected communities and called on all stakeholders to take swift action to restore peace, security, and hope throughout Idomaland.
