Oyo abduction: We lost two soldiers – GOC gives details of how victims were rescued [VIDEO]

Major General Details Operation to Rescue Abducted Schoolchildren in Nigeria

Major General Chinedu Nnebeufe, the General Officer Commanding the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, provided an update on the successful rescue of abducted schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire during a press briefing on Monday.

The operation, aimed at liberating the captives, was conducted in a dense forest where aerial drone surveillance proved challenging. “We opted for a ground operation because our aircraft and drones could not locate the victims; the terrain obstructed visibility significantly,” General Nnebeufe explained.

He noted that the rescue effort resulted in casualties, with two soldiers killed and others injured, including one soldier with a broken arm from a gunshot wound. The General took command of the operation and received support from National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, who deployed the National Counter-Terrorism unit to assist.

In his remarks, Nnebeufe indicated that security forces targeted the families of the terrorists in various states, including Adamawa and Kano, to exert pressure on the abductors.

Governor Seyi Makinde was present during the handover of the rescued individuals. The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to combat abduction-related violence in the region.
