Police arrest 20-year-old boy for gang rape in Ogun
Police in Ogun State have arrested Ayomide Kamula, a 20-year-old, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old girl in the Oke Sopen area of Ijebu-Igbo. The arrest occurred on Tuesday following a formal report filed by the victim’s mother.
Upon receiving the report, officers swiftly responded by visiting the scene of the incident to collect evidence. Deputy Police Public Relations Officer ASP Oluborode Opeyemi confirmed the arrest on Thursday and detailed the actions taken by the police.
Opeyemi stated that the victim was promptly taken to the General Hospital for a medical examination, accompanied by a formal Police Medical Form to ensure she received necessary care.
Preliminary investigations led to Kamula’s apprehension. Police are also actively searching for Boye Balogun, a co-suspect who remains at large.
“The arrest was made after a report was lodged at the station on September 1, 2026, around 10:10 a.m. by the victim’s mother,” Opeyemi said. “Standard procedures for survivor-centered care were followed, and the victim received medical attention without delay.”
Kamula is currently in police custody and undergoing interrogation. Meanwhile, operational measures have been intensified to locate and arrest Balogun.
The Deputy PPRO indicated that the case is being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
State Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni condemned the incident, categorizing sexual and gender-based violence as a serious crime that will not be tolerated. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against such offences and assured the victim’s family and the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
