Five Suspected Kidnappers Arrested in Rivers State
Rivers State Police Command announced the apprehension of five individuals suspected of involvement in kidnapping activities during a joint operation in the Oyigbo Local Government Area.
The arrests were executed by operatives from the Oyigbo Divisional Police Station, following directives from the state’s Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju. A press statement released on Thursday by spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe provided details on the operation.
The suspects, identified as 44-year-old Ezekiel Emmanuel, 51-year-old Chukwuma Mbanefor, 65-year-old Nicholas Diala, 49-year-old Ndubuisi Uwakwe, and 51-year-old Ifeanyi Nwankwo, reportedly confessed to their involvement in multiple kidnappings within the Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama, and Afam communities.
Agabe indicated that efforts to locate additional gang members are ongoing. According to Commissioner Adepoju, this successful operation is attributed to the intelligence-driven policing approach implemented under the guidance of Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu.
Adepoju emphasized the Command’s commitment to conducting rigorous, intelligence-based operations aimed at combating kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes throughout Rivers State.
“There will be no safe haven for kidnappers or other criminal elements,” he stated, reaffirming the Command’s determination to pursue and ensure the prosecution of offenders.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and to provide timely, credible information to assist the police in their efforts to prevent crime and apprehend suspects.
