KATSINA, Nigeria — The Katsina State Police Command has detained a 50-year-old man named Sagir Muntari in connection with an alleged ritual-related offense at the General Hospital in Funtua.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Abubakar Sadiq, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, provided details in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday.

According to the statement, Muntari was apprehended after hospital staff reported suspicious activity on the premises. On May 9, 2026, around 4:20 p.m., a staff member observed an unidentified individual wandering in a manner deemed questionable and alerted security personnel.

Detectives responded promptly to the scene, leading to Muntari’s arrest and subsequent identification. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to entering the hospital with the intention of obtaining a newborn’s womb for alleged spiritual and criminal purposes.

The police have stated that an investigation is ongoing, and Muntari will face charges in court following the inquiry.

Authorities emphasized their resolve to combat all forms of criminal and ritual-related activities, reaffirming their commitment to public safety and the protection of community institutions.
