Katsina State Police Arrest Suspected Informant for Bandits
KATSINA, Nigeria—The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended a 28-year-old man suspected of acting as an informant for bandits, following reports of threats and extortion targeting local residents.
In a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the situation began on April 9, 2026. A resident reported receiving threatening phone calls from unknown individuals demanding a ransom of N10 million, stating they would kill him if he failed to comply.
Authorities responded to the complaint and swiftly initiated an investigation, leading to the arrest of Usman Isah in connection with the case. Police also recovered charms believed to have been utilized in support of the suspect’s illicit activities.
During questioning, Isah reportedly confessed to the crime and disclosed that he conspired with his brother, whose name is being withheld, who remains at large. Isah also admitted to previous involvement in similar criminal acts.
The police are actively pursuing the accomplice. The suspect in custody is expected to face charges once investigations are complete.
Katsina State Police Commissioner CP Ali Umar Fage has directed officers to intensify efforts to locate the remaining suspect. He emphasized that the command will continue its crackdown on informants, collaborators, and individuals aiding banditry or other criminal activities in the state.
Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local police stations or through the command’s emergency lines.
