Two Arrested in Murder of Imo State Police Inspector
The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the murder of Police Inspector Henry Effiong. Inspector Effiong was assigned to the residence of Rex Anunobi, the Commissioner for Trade, Commerce, and Investment.
Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, stated that the suspects, identified as Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Maurice, 25, were apprehended at the scene shortly after the incident was reported.
Upon learning of the murder, Imo State Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso directed an immediate investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the case and to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Following this directive, the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), along with the Divisional Police Officer for New Owerri, visited the crime scene. Their investigations included examinations and the collection of relevant evidence.
The body of Inspector Effiong has been transferred to the mortuary for autopsy. The case has been assigned to the SCID for further investigation, with efforts underway to locate additional suspects who remain at large.
“The Commissioner of Police has instructed the investigative team to ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the statement read. “This incident serves as a painful reminder of the risks and sacrifices police officers make while fulfilling their duties.”
Commissioner Bosso expressed condolences to the family of the deceased inspector and reaffirmed the commitment of the police command to achieving justice in this case.
The police also reassured residents that security measures are in place to protect lives and property throughout the state. They urged the public to remain vigilant and report any information that could aid in the investigation.
