Police Arrest Two in Baby Abduction Case in Jigawa State
The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old woman and a nursing officer in connection with the alleged abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy from the pediatric ward of Babura General Hospital.
The arrest was announced by police spokesman SP Lawan Shiisu Adam in a statement issued to the media on Thursday.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Khadija Aliyu from Kinkinau Quarters in Kaduna State, was taken into custody following a distress call from the hospital regarding the child’s disappearance.
Police operatives tracked Aliyu to the outskirts of Babura, where she was reportedly found with the abducted child. Further investigations led to the arrest of 25-year-old Sadik Sale Yahaya, a nursing officer at Babura General Hospital, who is believed to have conspired with Aliyu in the abduction.
During interrogation, Aliyu allegedly confessed to plans of placing the child in an orphanage in Kaduna State with the intent to sell him for 2 million naira.
The rescued child has been placed in protective custody and is expected to be reunited with his family following the completion of necessary procedures.
Commissioner of Police Tijjani Murtala praised the operatives for their professionalism and bravery in the case and encouraged residents to continue providing timely information to support crime prevention and public safety in the community.
