Osun Police Confirm Abduction of Fulani Herdsman in Ijebu-Jesa

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Yahaya Sulaiman, a Fulani herdsman, in Ijebu-Jesa, located within the Oriade Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi reported that the incident occurred on Monday around 9 p.m. along the Iloko/Ijebu-Jesa Road. Ojelabi stated that investigations into the abduction have begun and that security operatives are actively pursuing leads.

According to Ojelabi, preliminary evidence suggests that Sulaiman was specifically targeted by his abductors. “The gunmen reportedly inquired about his whereabouts from a local resident before carrying out the abduction,” he noted.

A source in Ijebu-Jesa, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for safety reasons, indicated that the assailants seemed to possess prior knowledge of Sulaiman. The source confirmed that the gunmen demanded details about Sulaiman’s location from a nearby resident before identifying and seizing him.

“The gunmen struck late in the evening and specifically asked for the whereabouts of Yahaya Sulaiman,” the source said. “He is a prominent figure among Fulani herders in the area, known for his cattle rearing. The abductors have reportedly set a ransom of N70 million for his release.”

Ojelabi emphasized the need for public cooperation, urging community members to share any information that may assist in the investigation and rescue effort. He mentioned that while family members of the victim have not yet contacted anti-kidnapping authorities, the police are committed to addressing the situation as investigations continue.
