Police detonate IED-filled backpack in Borno

Borno Police Detonate Explosive Device in Maiduguri
Maiduguri, Nigeria – The Borno State Police Force reported that its operatives detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) on Tuesday. The device was found concealed in a backpack in the Layin Logo area of Moduganari, Maiduguri.
According to a statement from the force’s Public Relations Officer, Nahim Daso, the bag was discovered during routine surveillance and foot patrol at approximately 9 a.m. on May 5, 2026.
The Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, designated Base 13, was dispatched to the location. Upon examination, they identified the IED and safely detonated it in accordance with standard operating procedures.
The police urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious individuals or items to local law enforcement. Daso confirmed that an investigation is underway and further details will be forthcoming.
