Police flag off campaign to tackle common health challenges among personnel

Kwara State Police Command Launches Health Initiative to Enhance Officer Welfare
ILORIN, Nigeria — The Nigeria Police Force has initiated the “Know Your Number” campaign in the Kwara State Police Command to promote the health and operational effectiveness of its personnel. This initiative, spearheaded by the Director of Force Medical Services, Assistant Inspector General Nkechi Ifeoma Eze, aims to address preventable medical conditions linked to sudden health emergencies among police officers.
During a series of health sensitization lectures, Eze emphasized the risks posed by undiagnosed conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and prostate cancer. She highlighted the importance of regular medical screenings and the necessity of early detection in preventing serious health complications and preserving lives.
“The ‘Know Your Number’ campaign encourages personnel to monitor key health indicators and adopt preventive healthcare practices,” Eze stated. She noted that maintaining good health is crucial not only for individual well-being but also for effective policing and service delivery.
As part of the campaign, medical teams conducted free health screenings for the command, offering checks for blood pressure, blood sugar, and other essential health metrics.
State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police and the Director of Force Medical Services for bringing the initiative to the command. He affirmed the command’s commitment to supporting programs that enhance the welfare and professional efficiency of police personnel.
These announcements were made public through a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on Tuesday.
